Summer is in full swing and while many British Columbians are using their holiday time to explore our beautiful province, some are more cautious and content to stay close to home. As author and illustrator Edward Gorey once said, ““My favourite journey is looking out the window.” Wherever you are, we hope you and your family are healthy and safe.

Speaking of windows, we are excited to report that Foster Martin’s first window was recently installed … a happy milestone! As the windows are installed floor by floor, the internal trades can follow behind and begin fitting out each home, starting with the garden town-homes at the base of Martin tower.

Careful construction continues with approximately 150 to 200 (distanced) workers on site each day, and the crew is currently working on the 10th floor of both towers. In fact, 75% of the concrete structure is already complete; it may not seem like it because (similar to an iceberg) four massive levels of parking are below the surface. But we are steadily rising and anticipate both towers reaching their full 25 storeys before the end of the year.

Thanks to Mother Nature, Foster Martin welcomed its first (unexpected) resident: a mama hummingbird! Mama built her nest in one of the swimming pool columns on the 3rd floor and laid her eggs in mid-July. The entire construction force has been carefully and thoughtfully working around Mama and her nest; even implementing a creative strategy on the build-out of the final concrete column to ensure their safety and comfort are paramount. Hummingbirds are migratory birds and protected under federal legislation, so we’re working with Environment Canada. They tell us the eggs will hatch in approximately 16 days and then it will take an additional 18 days at minimum for the chicks to be able to fly away. Then Mama will be an “empty nester” and with bragging rights, she will undoubtedly be spreading the word on how outstanding our Shore Club is.

When you’re visiting White Rock’s beaches this summer, please drop by the Sales Gallery to enjoy the air conditioning, wander through the exquisite display home, and check out the live feed from our on-site construction camera. We’re open daily from noon to 5:00 pm (closed Mondays and Fridays).

Stay tuned for more updates. Have a great summer! Be kind. Be calm. Be safe.
